Samarkand has been nominated as the cultural capital of the CIS in 2024. This was announced after a meeting of the Council of the Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

In his speech at the meeting, President of Uzbekistan noted that one of the most important areas of interaction in the CIS is the cultural and humanitarian dimension.

In order to expand innovative interaction and youth cooperation, Mirziyoyev proposed to hold the first congress of young scientists of the CIS countries under the motto "Youth for innovation" in Uzbekistan next year.

He also expressed Uzbekistan's readiness to continue to actively promote and participate in joint projects and programs in education, science, health, sports, culture and art.

The President supported the decision to declare St. Petersburg the cultural capital of the CIS in 2023. Samarkand has been nominated as the cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2024.

In addition, the head of our state initiated an annual Commonwealth Open Chess Cup.
