Uzbekistan's Davlat Bobonov won a gold medal at the World Judo Championship in Tashkent. Shavkat Mirziyoyev personally handed it to him.

Bobonov, 25, won the 90-kilogram division by defeating Italy's Cristian Parlati in the final. By doing so, he brought the first gold to Uzbekistan's money box at this tournament.

This result lifted Uzbekistan into the top 6 in the medal standings, with only Japan
(5-3-2), Mongolia (1-1-1), Croatia (1-1-0), Georgia (1-0-2) and Brazil (1-0-1) advancing.
