UAE allocates $300 million to improve infrastructure in Samarkand

Shavkat Mirziyoev approved the attraction of a loan from the Abu Dhabi Development Fund of the United Arab Emirates for the modernization of water supply systems and road networks in the city of Samarkand.

The project is provided for by the investment agreement signed during Shavkat Mirziyoev’s visit to the UAE in 2019. The total loan amount is 1.1 billion dirhams ($299.4 million). The funds are provided for 17 years with a 4-year grace period at an annual rate of 2.5%.

The project will be implemented over four years (2022-2026).

Part of the modernization of water supply systems will be reimbursed at the expense of LLC "Samarkand water supply" and the local budget of the region, and part of the modernization of street and road networks - at the expense of the state budget.

Goods and equipment imported to Uzbekistan under the project will be exempt from customs duties. In addition, the state will reimburse the participating companies the amount of VAT paid by them - it is planned to allocate 42.76 million dollars for this.
