The information about the penetration of cholera detected in Afghanistan into Uzbekistan is completely false. This was reported by Nurmat Otabekov, deputy head of the sanitary-epidemiological well-being and public health service.

He reported that cholera is one of the most dangerous acute infectious intestinal diseases, which is accompanied by lesions of the small intestine, intoxication, deterioration of the general condition and dehydration of the body.

Cholera vibrio can remain alive in river water from 18 days to 5 months, in ice for several months, in ditches for several days, in sea water for two weeks, in cold weather in feces for several months, in garbage pits for up to 3 months, in laundry for two months, in sandy soil for several months, in water bodies for 15-30 days, in milk and oil for up to a month, in potatoes for up to 2 weeks, in moist fruits for several days.

According to Otabekov, there are two types of cholera: classical cholera and El Tor cholera. Accordingly, the cholera microbe (called vibrio) is divided into two types: classic cholera vibrio and El Tor. Disinfectants quickly kill the vibrio. Even boiling water quickly kills the vibrio.

"Providing the population with clean drinking water, regular decontamination of contaminated wastewater, and strict adherence to sanitary rules and requirements at food processing plants are very important in cholera prevention," said Otabekov.
